Our wonderful nanny called us last week to say she had a family emergency and would need to fly home for a week and a half. That call coincided with one of two extreme cold days in our city which never closes. So back-up care was pretty much impossible to find. We cobbled together care last week through a mix of nanny agencies, dropped balls at work and sheer determination.  I am convinced that the stress of childcare last week has manifested itself directly in my lower back.

My lovely sister-in-law, who is in the middle of a transition to another city, agreed to come help us out this week with the kids. She is gluten-free, so our menu this week is as well.

From last week, our two favorites were the curried cranberry couscous pilaf and the black bean enchiladas. Those are definitely keepers.

Menu – Week of January 11 – 17
