I bought my father and my husband a great bread book for Christmas: The new artisan bread in five minutes a day. We have been making sandwich bread every week since Christmas, and it is so very yummy. The buttermilk loaf is my favorite thus far. It is a little decadent, though, since it is all white flour and some butter. I can't justify making this every week, but perhaps once a month? We usually make two loaves on Sunday. I put one in the freezer, and we have eaten both by Saturday.
Chris is pretty proud of our bread. He asked the nanny if she knew anyone else who makes homemade bread. She shrugged her shoulders and said "Of course. My dad smokes his own meat." It is very hard to impress her.
