We had a little adult dinner party at our house on Friday night. A good friend had just moved back to the States, so we invited her over for dinner. And then we thought, since we are cooking and all - let's invite more! It was a pretty low key evening. We used the silver but didn't iron the napkins.
I made this cake from Sweet Paul. It turned out fine (everyone said they liked it), but I was expecting a fluffier cake. There were some errors in the recipe that even I caught, so I am not sure if it was the recipe or just me. I feel like cakes should be easier to make than they actually are. Perhaps I need a class or two.
Dinner was a Moroccan pastilla, couscous and a big salad with strawberries and pecans. Roses were too expensive because of Valentines day, so the flowers were bunches of red tulips from the grocery store. I actually liked the modern simplicity of the tulips better anyway. I used the 'tape cris-crossed over the vase' trick to get them to stand nicely. For the other vase, they just flopped wherever they wanted and it made me laugh. I have learned not to take dinner parties too seriously. Laughter is the secret to a good time. That and not ironing napkins.
